Review from Amazon: I first saw this movie in 1987 shortly after it had won the Palme D'Or at Cannes - my cousin had encouraged me to see it in Paris - it moved me profoundly then and it has done so every time I have seen it since - and that must be at least a dozen times now. Wings of Desire is a masterpiece - in my opinion it is one of the greatest films ever made. It is magical, mystical, profound, moving, inspiring, arresting and above all hopeful, immediate and intimate. This is a film that encapsulates everything Divine about being Human, everything that the Angelic world must forgo unless it is willing to incarnate and accommodate all that it means to be in human form. The ultimate component is realised in relationship and it is Love that beckons and ultimately brings the Angelic Being in to human form so as to realise in time and place, in flesh and blood, the ultimate of Divine mysteries which is the union of two people - in this case a man and a woman. If you have not seen this movie and feel drawn to see it - do so as soon as you can.
